Cross-tested profit-sharing and 401(k) plans are among the most popular plan designs today. They can aid a practitioner in tailoring a plan for the needs of a business and its workforce. But cross-testing is not a “one size fits all” design.

There are many approaches to a cross-tested plan, with very different outcomes. And unless a practitioner understands all the tools available for the plan, the practitioner may well provide a plan that is less effective or more costly than it could or should be.

1. Determine when restructuring a cross-tested plan will help
2. Restructure a plan using family members
3. Convert a contribution rate to a benefit rate
4. Allocate and test a contribution under cross-tested plan
5. Design a cross-tested, safe harbor 401(k) cross-tested plan
6. Understand the flexibility of “each participant in his/her own classification” plan design
7. Compare a cross-tested plan with a DB/DC “combo” plan
8. Determine when to use an 11(g) amendment in a cross-tested plan
9. Review other design and testing alternatives

Hardware System Requirements:

• Windows 95, 98, NT 4.0, 2000, XP, Windows 7
• Internet Explorer 4.01 or later, Netscape 4.08 or later, and set Internet browser to allow pop-up windows.
