An overwhelming number of TPAs tell us that their clients have not started the process to comply with the HIPAA Privacy regulations. With the following questions, your Plan Sponsors will begin thinking about the impact of these regulations. Just ask them!

  1. Do you know what the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) is?

  2. Do you have a thorough understanding of these regulations?

  3. Do you know that most health plans must be in compliance with the HIPAA Privacy regulations by April 2003?

  4. Do you know that your health plan is defined as a covered entity by the HIPAA Privacy regulations?

  5. Have you begun the compliance process? If not, when do you expect to begin?

  6. If you have begun the compliance process, have you identified the gaps? Do you know how to implement the changes needed when these gaps are identified?

  7. Will a firm be assisting you in Privacy compliance? If yes, what type of firm?

  8. How much have you budgeted for compliance?

  9. What is the most important compliance service for your firm?
