This program was recorded on July 17, 2008.
On June 17, 2008, the President signed the Heroes Earnings Assistance and Relief Tax Act of 2008 (HEART). This new law passed Congress unanimously. It provides important new protections for the men and women of the US armed services, as well as new options and new requirements for all types of retirement plans. It also imposes new withholding and taxation rules for pension distributions to expatriates. Inasmuch as several of the provisions are retroactively effective, there may be plans which are making distributions today that are incorrect under the new law. Not surprisingly, the new rules will require the amendment of every qualified plan in existence.
This program will lay out all the rules of this new law which relate to employee benefit plans. And, we will review key provisions of USERRA (which the new law impacts) and show how the law modifies the 415 regulations (yes, those rules you are adopting amendments for now are being changed). As always, the Web Seminar will have many examples, and we will address the specific questions of attendees. If you work with retirement plans (including 403(b) plans), you will not want to miss this program.
