2008 is proving to be a challenge. Pre-approved defined contribution plans have at long last received their EGTRRA opinion letters, signifying the opening bell in the next round of prototype restatements. The Department of Labor (DOL) and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) are bringing to a conclusion important guidance projects concerning Qualified Default Investments, 401(k) plan fee disclosure by service providers, and the automatic enrollment provisions of PPA ’06. Additional regulations, requiring participant level disclosure of fees and expenses, are due out at any moment.
